Research and debate areas

The newly-elected Board of Directors of IPP, for 2016-2017, aims to increase the impact of IPP on the public debate, with more and better activities and publications. Thus, IPP is in a period of reflection, from which will come out a new plan of research and debate centred around the following major areas.

Economic policy within the European Union

This area encompasses research and debate on the following three topics:

  • Economic and financial policy in the global economy (Coordinator: Francesco Franco and Ricardo Cabral)
  • Euro area governance framework (Coordinator: Francesco Franco)
  • Regulation and competition policy (Coordinator: Pedro Pita Barros)

Good government

This area encompasses research and debate on the following three topics:

  • Budget transparency and public governance (Coordinator: Luís Teles Morais and Luís de Sousa)
  • Local government and finance (Coordinator: Luís de Sousa)
  • National public finance and fiscal policy (Coordinator: Luís Teles Morais)

Political systems and accountability

This area encompasses research and debate on the following three topics:

  • European democracy and accountability (Coordinator: Marina Costa Lobo)
  • Ideological literacy and political participation (Coordinator: Marina Costa Lobo)
  • Voting system (Coordinator: Marina Costa Lobo)

Social policy and justice

This area encompasses research and debate on the following three topics:

  • Education and health policy (Coordinator: Pedro Pita Barros)
  • Inequalities and social cohesion (Coordinator: Carlos Farinha Rodrigues)
  • Social insurance systems (Coordinator: Pedro Pita Barros)
