Digital technologies have become crucial for individuals, businesses and public bodies. Their importance and impact are beyond question, and ensuring data ownership, secure supply chains for essential materials, a robust digital infrastructure and sound cybersecurity strategies has become a top priority at a global level.
The EU finds itself at a competitive disadvantage compared with its peers. To preserve its liberal democratic values, it needs to step up its efforts to ensure that it is as independent as possible from third countries, which often have interests that differ from those of the European bloc.
This paper begins by outlining the EU’s main vulnerabilities in the digital sphere, the measures taken to improve the current situation, and finally focuses on the importance of TTCs in enhancing the EU’s digital autonomy and sovereignty.
