An Intergenerational Justice Index for Portugal

“An Intergenerational Justice Index for Portugal” project, developed by the Institute of Public Policy and supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, is part of a series of works that the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation has been developing over the past five years.

This project involves the development of six inter-generational justice indices across diverse dimensions, including housing, the labor market, the environment, public finances, health, inequality, and poverty. These indices collectively form an annual inter-generational justice index for Portugal, designed for regular updates.

The primary aim of the project is to highlight inter-generational justice issues in public and political discourse, pinpointing areas where the most significant injustices emerge. Additionally, it seeks to analyze the extent to which public policies have either exacerbated or alleviated these inter-generational disparities.
