Tiago Ricardo

Tiago Ricardo holds an MSc in Economics and Public Policy and a BSc in Economics from ISEG – Lisbon School of Economics & Management, University of Lisbon. He has received several academic distinctions, including the Professor Jacinto Nunes Award (Banco de Portugal) and the Caixa Geral de Depósitos Award, and was awarded a research scholarship by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in 2023. He is currently Executive Assistant and Researcher at the Institute of Public Policy – Lisbon.

His research focuses on the application of econometric models to public and social policy, with published work in the European Review of Business Economics. His master’s dissertation examines the impact of the four-day working week on productivity, drawing on the Portuguese pilot project and employing an econometric approach. He also developed a preliminary proposal for reforming the Portuguese electoral system towards a mixed proportional representation model, which led to the co-authorship of the IPP report Reforming the Electoral System: Redesigning Constituencies and Changing the Ballot Paper?. In addition, he contributed to the editorial process of the report What Future Are We Leaving to Future Generations? – An Intergenerational Justice Index for Portugal 2025.

In 2025, his public and civic engagement was recognised with the Medal of Merit of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. He is also a guest columnist for Expresso and Observador, where he writes on economics, politics, and youth-related issues.
